HUD Unveils the Primary Residence Buyer Matching Period

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), announces today the Primary Residence Buyer Matching Period.

This new policy gives owner-occupant home buyers a 14-day window to match any existing offers from investors or second-home buyers on residential properties. If matched, the owner-occupant buyers will be given priority to purchase. Local boards will also be established to review and approve all bids to curb speculation and protect owner-occupant buyers from being priced out.

"We believe this program will help more families put down roots in their communities and build long-term wealth through homeownership," said the HUD secretary. "By giving owner-occupants priority over investors and second-home buyers, we're ensuring that homes in our communities are lived in, not just owned."
