ATF Launches the Firearm Protection Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), announces today the launch of the Firearm Protection Program.

Beginning in November 2027, all new firearms sold in the United States will be mandated to send anonymized data to the Firearm Protection Program. This new initiative will include a publicly accessible app that provides all citizens with the opportunity to track the general location of all new firearms sold.

"This initiative empowers Americans to make informed decisions about their safety. By providing real-time, anonymized data on firearm presence, citizens can better assess their surroundings and identify potential risks in their community," said the ATF representative. "It could also provide emergency services with timely information that could assist in their response to firearm-related incidents."
